Important: Follow your manufacturer’s manual. Descaling a dual boiler incorrectly can damage components or create a difficult repair.
After each session
- Purge and wipe the steam wand immediately.
- Flush the group briefly and rinse the basket.
- Empty and rinse the drip tray as needed.
Weekly
Backflush with water if the machine supports it, clean baskets and the shower screen, and inspect the group gasket for coffee buildup.
Monthly or as directed
Use espresso-machine detergent according to the manual. Replace water filters on schedule. Frequency depends on use and water chemistry.
About descaling
Prevention is safer than aggressive descaling. Use water that meets the maker’s hardness and alkalinity guidance, and seek service advice when scale has formed inside a complex dual boiler.
